How it all started...
Champion City Church of God in Christ is located in West Springfield, Massachusetts. It was founded by Elder Dominique and Lady Niecey Fryar, a dedicated husband-and-wife team. They began their ministry by leading marriage programs while Pastor Dom was an active-duty Sergeant in the United States Army. During this time, they hosted several families in their home and attended marriage retreats to support military chaplains during the "Strong Bonds Retreats."
Pastor Dom was actively involved with the military ministry team at both Fort Gordon, Georgia, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. At Joint Base Lewis-McChord, he facilitated and led weekly Bible studies at local base chapels, which grew from 8-10 attendees to over 60 participants each week. While deployed in Afghanistan, Pastor Dom was also a member of the ministry team, helping to teach men's Bible studies. This ministry expanded into a weekly church service held at the Bagram Air Force Base Chapel, which eventually transformed into a revival, drawing crowds that stood outside the chapel to hear the gospel.
Upon returning to Springfield, Massachusetts, after two deployments and 15 years of military service, Pastor Dom and Lady Niecey sought to continue their mission of helping families and strengthening marriages. Noticing that Springfield was one of the most post-Christian cities in America, Pastor Dom felt a strong calling to make a difference and the passion to live out Matthew 28:19 was ignited.
Pastor Dom and Lady Niecey have five children. Pastor Dom is a licensed and ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ and is also a certified member of the John Maxwell Leadership Team, serving as a facilitator, trainer, and coach. Additionally, he works as a Management Official with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, leading and managing a team of 20 claim processors. Lady Niecey, a graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, is a highly experienced social services professional in Connecticut, assisting children and families. She actively volunteers for various organizations in the community and is recognized for her natural ability to manage business operations and simplify complex tasks.
With their formal training and rich ministry backgrounds, they established a nonprofit organization that embodies faith, family, and community—Champion City Church, which was incorporated in 2021.
